Create a striking pair of Whale Tail Beaded Earrings with Sara and Diego from Awaska Designs!
This contemporary design turns traditional bead weaving into something wonderfully graphic and sculptural. The sweeping whale tail silhouette is built row by row, with spectacular stepped edges that showcase the precision of Cylin™ Beads. The crisp geometry feels modern, while the graduated ocean inspired palette gives the earrings movement and depth.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to construct the design from the first four beads through each expanding row using precise off loom bead weaving techniques. The cylindrical shape of Cylin™ Beads creates the clean alignment and beautifully defined edges that are such an important part of the finished piece.
Awaska takes you through the entire process step by step, including shaping the two sides of the whale tail, joining the beadwork, adding the pearl detail and finishing the earrings with lever backs.
The palette moves through Arctic Mist, Seafoam, Blue Zircon, Dusky Wisteria and Purple, creating bands of color that emphasize the dramatic shape and those incredible edges.
It’s a beautiful example of how contemporary design and traditional bead weaving can come together in a piece that looks far more complicated than its simple needle and thread beginnings.

Meet the designers - Awaska
Awaska is a family run design studio created by a Latin American couple Sara and Diego, whose journey through traditional weaving eventually led them to Canada. Their work is deeply inspired by nature, color, and cultural storytelling, blending ancestral techniques with a modern beadwork voice.
Every design reflects a love of detail, patience, and the quiet rhythm of making by hand. Through their beadwork, Awaska creates a meaningful bridge between heritage and the present day.
We are proud to collaborate with designers who bring this level of intention and heart to every project. Follow Awaska on social media to see more of their beautiful work and creative journey. www.awaska.ca
