WARNING: Art Bell Opened the Lines to a Cave That Shouldn't Exist… Then Things Got Strange

In 1982, a man in southern Illinois said he had fallen into a hole on a hillside and found a passage. Inside, he claimed, were thousands of carved stones — Egyptian figures, Phoenician script, Latin inscriptions — and chambers holding the dead. He never told anyone where it was. The region has been called Little Egypt since the nineteenth century, its towns named Cairo, Thebes, Karnak. Russell Burrows said the cave beneath it held proof that someone crossed the Atlantic long before Columbus and was buried in Illinois soil. Artifacts circulated. Photographs circulated. Academic archaeology looked at the carvings and dismissed the whole thing as a fabrication, and without a location to excavate, the argument never got past that. Dr. Glenn Kimball came to it from an unusual angle. A collector of ancient manuscripts, Kimball spent his career assembling apocryphal and non-canonical texts — material excluded from the Bible, accounts of the years of Jesus's life the Gospels leave blank.
