Every Animal With WEIRD Body Part No Other Species Has If you've ever seen a proboscis monkey and done a double-take, you're not alone, because this is an animal that looks like it lost a bet with evolution and came out the other side somehow more successful for it. Found exclusively on the island of Borneo in the dense riverine forests and mangrove swamps of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei, the proboscis monkey carries what is arguably the most extreme nose of any primate alive today. In adult males, the nose grows continuously throughout their lives, eventually becoming a large, bulbous, pendulous structure that droops well below the chin and can reach lengths of up to seven inches. It hangs there, fleshy and pale against their reddish-orange fur, looking almost comically oversized for the face it's attached to. But this nose is not a joke of nature.
