Hello everyone and welcome back to another video on my channel and to a new railtouring / railtour chase video. As you probably know, in this video I am chasing LNER A3 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’ around the Great Western network in South Oxfordshire and Berkshire as she was doing two round trips from Didcot parkway, organised by Fox & Edwards Events and being operated by Vintage Trains using their rake of MK1 and MK2 coaches and class 37 no 37240 on the rear.
Starting at Didcot Parkway at 11:21 (7 mins late), Scotsman travelled down the GWML towards Reading where it then turned south through Reading West and then onto the Reading – Taunton line, more commonly known as the Berks and Hants. At Newbury Racecourse, the train paused for about 35 mins before continuing down to just east of Westbury where it joined the single track line to re-join the GWML at Chippenham and back towards Didcot through Swindon. Arriving back at Didcot at 15:19 (1 min early) the train paused for just shy of 1 hour before starting the second round trip, leaving Didcot at 16:16 (2 mins late) and arriving back at 20:23 (8 mins late).
I caught her at Cholsey (between Didcot and Reading), Hungerford Common (between Newbury and Westbury) and then at a foot crossing just off Denchworth road in Grove, Wantage (between Swindon and Didcot) on the first round trip and then on the second round trip I went to Midgham (between Reading and Newbury). After Midgham, I was going to head to Bridge 99 over the Kennet and Avon canal which runs right next to the Berks & Hants between Bedwyn and Crofton at 18:00 however the sky had a thick cover of grey clouds and by the time Scotsman would’ve come past the lighting wouldn’t have been amazing, the weather kept threatening rain and it was also getting rather chilly as well so I decided to end my day at Midgham. Still a fantastic day and I’m very happy with the 4 passes I managed to capture as I would never pass up the opportunity to see Flying Scotsman doing what she does best on the mainline.
I do hope you enjoy this video and if you do then please consider leaving a like and subscribing. Until the next video though, look after yourselves and I shall see you down the line very soon for a new railwaying adventure.
Cheers, Cameron
