Diesen Song habe ich Mitte der 60er in der Schule gelernt. Er war für mich immer der Gegenentwurf zu den ernsten, romantisch schweren, deutschen Weihnachtsliedern. Ein leichter Calypso. Und diese Stimme! Harry Belafonte nimmt man die Weihnachtsgeschichte ab. Sie bleibt irreal, bekommt aber durch sein Lied eine poetische Wahrheit. Dieser Song berührt mich immer noch zutiefst und hat mich zu seinen anderen Liedern geführt. // J'ai appris cette chanson à l'école au milieu des années 60. To me, it was always the antithesis of those serious, romantically sombre German Christmas carols. A light-hearted calypso. And that voice! Harry Belafonte makes the Christmas story believable.
