Standing CT scans are an advanced form of imaging that allow specialists to assess the foot and ankle while the patient remains fully weight-bearing during the scan. Unlike a traditional CT scan performed lying down, standing CT scans capture detailed images of the feet and ankles while your body weight is applied. This provides a more functional and accurate view of joint alignment, bone positioning, and structural issues that may only appear when standing. A key benefit of standing CT scanning is that radiation is focused only on the area being assessed — typically the feet and ankles — rather than passing through the whole body. This makes the scan both targeted and clinically valuable for orthopaedic assessment. Standing CT scans are particularly useful for diagnosing and evaluating: Foot and ankle alignment problems Arthritis and joint degeneration Structural deformities (e.g. flat feet) Post-injury or post-surgical assessment Weight-bearing causes of pain or instability At Welbeck, we offer specialist-led access to standing CT scans as part of our advanced orthopaedic and diagnostic imaging services.
