Exposed: The "Struggling" Mum Living A Secret Luxury Lifestyle | Saints & Scroungers

Every Monday morning, the couple who ran a small Lincolnshire charity for adults with learning disabilities collected cash from the people they were supposed to be helping. It was for their utility bills, they said. Then they took it home. An anonymous whistleblowing letter in 2011 put police and a financial investigator onto them, and what started as a question about £40 a week turned into five years of bank records, thousands of transactions, and a charity that had been quietly stripped from the inside. Over £100,000 had been moved into a security company the husband had set up. Wages were being paid to a woman nobody at the charity had heard of. One service user had handed over £43,000 of savings. Also in this episode: a mother whose daughter's traumatic birth led to a cerebral palsy diagnosis at six months, and the centre in Birmingham that got her walking by four; and a mum of seven in Blackburn caught after four weeks of surveillance, whose partner claimed he lived in the caravan at the side of the house.
