After Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, they began a new life outside the garden.
Adam and Eve had two sons.
The first was named Cain.
The second was named Abel.
Cain became a farmer, while Abel became a shepherd who cared for sheep.
One day, Cain and Abel brought offerings to God.
Cain brought some of the crops he had grown.
Abel brought the best portions from the firstborn of his flock.
God was pleased with Abel and his offering.
But God was not pleased with Cain and his offering.
Cain became very angry.
God warned Cain:
“Why are you angry?
Why is your face downcast?
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?
But if you do not do what is right, sin is waiting at the door.
You must rule over it.”
But Cain did not listen to God's warning.
One day, Cain took Abel into the field.
There, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
Then the Lord asked Cain:
“Where is your brother Abel?”
Cain answered:
“I don't know.
Am I my brother's keeper?”
God then confronted Cain about what he had done.
“Your brother's blood is crying out to Me from the ground.”
Because Cain had killed Abel, God punished him.
Cain would become a restless wanderer on the earth, and the ground would no longer produce crops for him as it had before.
Cain was afraid that someone would find him and kill him.
But God placed a mark on Cain and protected him.
Cain left the presence of the Lord and went to live in another land.
Later, Adam and Eve had another son named Seth.
The family of Adam and Eve continued through Seth and his descendants.
The story of Cain and Abel teaches us about jealousy, anger, obedience, and the consequences of our choices.
Cain allowed jealousy and anger to control his heart, and his anger led to a terrible tragedy.
But the story of humanity continued.
Generations would pass.
God's plan would continue.
And another great story was about to begin.
The earth would become filled with violence and corruption.
Then God would call a man named Noah.
