In 1764, the outcome of a single clash changed the course of Indian history forever. The Battle of Buxar pitted the British East India Company, led by Hector Munro, against the combined forces of Mir Qasim (Nawab of Bengal), Shuja-ud-Daula (Nawab of Awadh), and the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II.
Unlike the Battle of Plassey, which was won through conspiracy, Buxar was a decisive military engagement. The British victory secured the Diwani rights (tax collection) over Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa, laying the foundation for British colonial rule in South Asia.
