She Vanished From Her Shop. Police Followed One Receipt. | Ed Gein

A shopkeeper vanished from a small Wisconsin town. One receipt led police to Ed Gein’s isolated farmhouse—and a discovery that would haunt horror cinema. Dark Footnote follows Gein’s childhood, his attachment to his mother, the deaths of Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden, and the investigation behind the man whose crimes helped inspire Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs. Film characters and adaptations are distinguished from the historical case. Some scenes use labeled AI-assisted reconstructions, illustrative stock footage, and explanatory motion graphics. They are not recordings of the crimes. Historical photographs and accounts are used for documentary context.
