This drive follows one of the northern approaches to the Uncompahgre Plateau, traveling along Delta Nucla Road (Mesa Road 25) between Delta and Nucla in western Colorado. The route climbs from canyon country into the forests of the Uncompahgre National Forest before crossing Columbine Pass and descending toward the ranchlands surrounding Nucla. Our journey begins where the pavement ends outside Delta, following the unpaved portion of the route as it climbs from semi-arid canyon country onto the Uncompahgre Plateau. Soon, the road enters the Uncompahgre National Forest and continues toward Columbine Pass before descending toward Nucla through open Ponderosa parks, scrub oak hillsides, and landscapes shaped by past wildfires. The drive ends where pavement begins again just north of Nucla. This road provides a quiet crossing of the Uncompahgre Plateau, connecting the forests and high country of western Colorado with the canyon landscapes and remote communities beyond. This drive was recorded in real time from the passenger seat of a 2024 Toyota 4Runner, well-suited for these Colorado backroads. There is no narration or music—just the road, the landscape, and the quiet passing of miles. If you enjoy calm scenic drives, slow travel, and roads less traveled, sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey.
