We often look at our marks as evidence of where life damaged us.
But an ancient stone does not hide the lines carved by rain, winter and time. It carries them as proof of every season it endured. Its surface changed, but nothing truly disappeared.
“The Stone That Remembered” is a shamanic folk song about honoring the marks left by our journey. Perhaps our scars do not reveal where we surrendered. Perhaps they remember that we were here—and that we continued.
LYRICS:
[Verse 1]
They called it only silent stone,
A weight beside the northern road.
No leaf to turn, no seed to sow,
No living heart the eye could know.
But rain had written silver lines,
And winter carved its patient signs.
A thousand feet had crossed that ground,
And every step remained somehow.
[Pre-Chorus]
Nothing spoke,
Yet nothing disappeared.
Time had left
A language written there.
[Chorus]
The stone remembered every rain,
Every winter, every name.
Not as wounds it had to hide,
But as rivers held inside.
Time may change the face we show,
Still the deepest stories grow.
Every mark that we have known
Leaves a memory in the stone.
[Verse 2]
It knew the warmth of summer hands,
The hunters passing through the land.
It felt the trembling of the deer,
The farewell footsteps disappear.
It never begged the years to stay,
Or asked the storms to turn away.
It let each season leave a trace,
And slowly shaped another face.
[Pre-Chorus]
Nothing stayed
The way it first appeared.
Still nothing lived
Without remaining there.
[Chorus]
The stone remembered every rain,
Every winter, every name.
Not as wounds it had to hide,
But as rivers held inside.
Time may change the face we show,
Still the deepest stories grow.
Every mark that we have known
Leaves a memory in the stone.
[Bridge]
What if the lines upon our skin
Are not the places we gave in?
What if they show that we were here,
That we endured another year?
[Verse 3]
At dawn, the sunlight crossed the hill
And found the ancient boulder still.
Not what it was in seasons gone,
But carrying each season on.
No longer mute, no longer cold,
Its every fracture shone like gold.
The years had never passed it by—
They shaped the way it met the sky.
[Final Chorus]
The stone remembered every rain,
Every winter, every name.
Not as wounds it had to hide,
But as rivers held inside.
Time may change the face we show,
Still the deepest stories grow.
Every mark that we have known
Leaves a memory in the stone.
[Final]
Every rain...
Every name...
Every road that brought us home...
The stone remembered.
