Recording many Flexity and Citadis trams at South Terrace tram stop SA. Filmed on 9/08/2025.
A new tram timetable for the Glenelg line became operative from 26 January. For the first time since the line was extended from Victoria Square to North Terrace, city shuttle services ran in the weekday interpeak were eliminated in favour of all trams running the full length of the line providing a ten-minute weekday test run interpeak frequency. Thus the terminating stubs at West Terrace (originally renamed Royal Adelaide Hospital) and South Terrace to provide and average 7.5 minute headway through the city. This new reduction in core city service is occurring at a time when the number of inter-peak trains at Adelaide Railway Station has steadily increased (now 16 arrivals per hour) and rail patronage is rising significantly. On Saturday 9 August, we see Citadis tram 202, and tram 209, Bombardier Flexity 103 ran from there to RAH, awaits its next shuttle to South Terrace while the trams ex Botanic Gardens passes enroute to the Entertainment Centre. It was 10 years since 103 entered service as the first ‘modern’ tram in Adelaide (on 9 January 2006).
The stop here opened on 6 August 2007 as part of the City West extension. It’s now a temporary stop for trams in sidings for the grade separation on the overpss bridges.
