THE COST OF TRUE DISCIPLESHIP(Luke 14:25–35) 1.Supremacy of love for Jesus over family and self: Jesus uses strong Semitic hyperbole ("hate") to mean that a disciple's devotion to Him must be so supreme and wholehearted that all other earthly relationships—even with parents, spouses, children, and one's own life—look like hatred by comparison. Christ must hold first place. 2.Carrying one's own cross and following Jesus : A disciple must be willing to endure public shame, rejection, suffering, or even literal martyrdom for Christ. This entails a total surrender of personal comfort, reputation, and agenda to follow Jesus wherever He leads. 3.Giving up/renouncing all Earthly possessions : A disciple must loosen their grip on material wealth and worldly security. This means recognizing that everything belongs to God and being ready to relinquish personal ownership or control over one's property and status for the sake of the Kingdom
