This area was once the maritime stronghold of the Murakami Navy (specifically the Kurushima-Murakami clan) and has long served as a vital hub for maritime traffic in the Seto Inland Sea. Today, the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge—a massive three-span suspension bridge—connects the islands, stretching approximately 4 kilometers in total length.
