The Buddha answered kings, merchants, and even a killer. But when a wanderer asked him, "Is there a self?", he said nothing at all. Why? For forty-five years, the Buddha answered almost every question, yet he refused the biggest ones: Is the universe eternal? Is the soul the same as the body? Where does an awakened person go after death? In this video, we explore seven moments when the Buddha chose silence, from the parable of the poisoned arrow to a handful of simsapa leaves and a fire going out, and uncover why each silence was a teaching in itself. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 The Question in the Grove 03:00 Silence 1: Malunkyaputta & the Poisoned Arrow 06:24 Silence 2: Vacchagotta & the Question of Self 08:08 Silence 3: A Handful of Simsapa Leaves ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🪷 ABOUT BODHI LIGHT Bodhi Light brings the teachings, stories, and disciples of the Buddha to life through calm, hand-painted storytelling.
