A foot soak only helps if the house your feet go home to is dry, mija. Tonight, take the insole out of your shoe and touch the underside: still warm, very often, and sometimes still a little damp.
You wash your feet every day, and then you put them back into that. If you fight shoe odor and sweaty feet with sprays and powders, look at the four places your feet visit every day: the insole of your shoe, the underside of your bath mat, the basin you use for a foot soak, and the towel you dry your feet with. The foot is the guest. The damp is the house.
My mother cleaned eleven rich people's houses in Puebla for thirty years, standing up, ten hours a day. In this video I show you her way, with things you already have: how to clean shoe insoles by taking them out every night so the air can dry them, how to remove smell from shoes without a spray, the bath mat that stays wet underneath for hours, a basin that does only one job, a towel only for feet, and then the foot soak she kept for herself every evening, done the safe way for a person our age.
If you have cold feet at night, a warm foot soak an hour before bed warms them. Whether it helps you fall asleep faster, the studies are not sure, and I tell you that honestly. If your feet are cold all the time, even in warm socks, tell your doctor.

DISCLAIMER
These are household cleaning habits from my family, shared for general information only. This is not medical advice. If you have diabetes, numb feet, poor circulation, an open sore, or skin that is cracked, red or painful, do not soak your feet: ask your doctor first. Always test the water with a bath thermometer or your elbow, never with your foot. Sit in a sturdy chair with a back, never carry a full basin, and never kneel on a wet floor. You use everything in this video at your own risk.
ONE THING TO DO TODAY
Tonight, sit down, take the insoles out of the shoes you wore today, and stand the shoes by the door or a window where the air can reach inside. That is how to clean shoe insoles the way my mother did: el aire does the work.
TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS
Was your insole still damp? And what did your mother or your grandmother do with her feet at the end of a long day, and where do you live? Maybe she was not Mexican. Maybe she was from Ohio, or Naples, or Manila. Tell me what she did.
I read every one.
