Tucker and I explored the beautiful East Fork Trail #137 and connected with East Box Trail #134 in the heart of the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico. Wanna watch more day hikes? 👉 • New Mexico Day Hikes

This trail could be started at either point.
Starting along the East Fork of the Jemez River, we followed the river upstream toward the highway before turning around and retracing our steps back to the truck.
The East Fork Trail is one of the most scenic hikes in northern New Mexico, known for its gentle terrain, lush forests, mountain views, and constant access to the East Fork Jemez River. This trail is perfect for hikers looking for a relaxing outdoor experience while enjoying the sounds of flowing water and the beauty of the Jemez Mountains.
It was a beautiful day on the trail, and we encountered plenty of people enjoying the river and the great weather. One of the most interesting parts of the hike was seeing the impact of local beavers. Several beaver dams had backed up water along the trail, flooding portions of the route and making navigation a little more challenging. Unfortunately, I ended up with wet feet while crossing the flooded sections, but Tucker didn't seem to mind at all and had a great time splashing and playing in the water.
The combination of flowing river views, towering trees, wildlife activity, and evidence of the area's hardworking beavers made this hike a memorable experience. If you're looking for a family-friendly hike in the Jemez Mountains with beautiful scenery and plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature, the East Fork Trail #137 is definitely worth adding to your list.
