Rick Heinz has been a storyteller for 18 years. He started in Vampire: The Masquerade and Wraith: The Oblivion, wrote the Geek & Sundry GM Tips series after Matt Mercer and Satine Phoenix, and for about a decade ran paid LARPs for 80 to 90 players every October. In Part 1, Rick talks about what it takes to turn storytelling into a side business. In this episode: • Why paid LARPs were his most successful storytelling business • Renting bars, castles and mansions, with costumes, props and even VR rigs • The logistics of 80+ players: character sheets, backstories, food, water and rules • A 10-week political LARP where players wrote the rules for magic returning to the world • Why a White Wolf LARP is closer to Model UN than a sword fight • Murder mystery one-shots in full costume • Running games at conventions, and why you only need the hook from a pre-written one-shot • His convention panel "How to (Not) Suck at Storytelling," where veteran GMs share their worst failures • Running D&D for kids at his local game store 📺 More pro GM interviews:    • Paid DM Interviews   Recorded in 2020.
