Joseph IV: Where Is God? Genesis 39:20–40:23 Joseph was falsely accused and thrown into prison, yet Genesis repeatedly tells us that “the Lord was with him.” God’s favour does not mean a life free from suffering, setbacks or injustice. David, Daniel and even Jesus experienced hardship despite God’s presence and approval. While the world sees suffering as defeat, God can use it to draw us closer to Himself. Like Derek Redmond, who continued despite his devastating injury, Joseph persevered faithfully in difficult circumstances. God does not abandon us in our pain; He sustains, comforts and restores us. Applications: 1. Stop measuring God’s favour by how smoothly life goes. When things go wrong, don’t assume God has abandoned you. Instead of asking only, “Why is this happening?”, ask, “How can I trust God in this?” Remind yourself that God is still with you, even in hardship. 2. Keep doing what is right, even when nobody notices. Joseph served faithfully despite injustice. Likewise, continue serving, praying, forgiving and doing good, even when nobody appreciates you and circumstances remain unchanged. We may not understand God’s plans, but the God who was with Joseph in the palace was also with him in prison.
