The Lawyer and The Doctor: Nairobi's Most Twisted Double Execution| Kyalo Mbobu

The assassination of prominent Nairobi lawyer Mathew K’yalo Mbobu sent shockwaves across Kenya, but what initially appeared to be a targeted killing would eventually expose a much bigger and more disturbing murder conspiracy. On September 9th, 2025, Mathew K’yalo Mbobu was gunned down along Magadi Road while driving home to Karen. A motorcycle carrying two men pulled alongside his vehicle, and one of the attackers opened fire, killing the lawyer in a chilling daylight-style execution. Months later, Dr. Victoria Mutiso, a clinical psychologist connected to the same bitter Mavoko land dispute, was also assassinated while travelling to work in an Uber along Ma-wensi Road in Upper Hill, Nairobi. The two murders would eventually lead investigators towards an alleged network of hired killers, serving police officers, firearms and individuals connected to a decades-old matrimonial property dispute involving an 8.1-hectare parcel of land in Mavoko valued at approximately KSh 1.5 billion. At the centre of the investigation were allegations of contract killings, police involvement, financial transactions and a family dispute that had escalated into deadly violence. But who allegedly organised the assassinations? How were the gunmen recruited? What role did serving police officers play in the murder plot? And how did a decades-old land dispute become connected to the deaths of a prominent Kenyan lawyer and a clinical psychologist? In this episode of Dark Hour Docs, we examine the assassination of Mathew K’yalo Mbobu, the murder of Dr. Victoria Mutiso, the Mavoko land dispute and the shocking allegations that emerged during the investigation.
