How do local families spend an ordinary weekday evening in suburban Beijing?
In this episode, we visit a local festival in Caiyu, Daxing, to experience a side of Beijing that most overseas visitors rarely see. This is not the Forbidden City, the Great Wall or a famous downtown attraction—it is a real evening out for families living on the outskirts of the city.
We arrive before the event becomes busy and begin by walking through the food street. Vendors prepare grilled squid, oyster omelets, beef pies, lamb skewers, grilled oysters, spiral potatoes and other popular street foods.
We then continue to the lawn, where children take part in games, parents walk and relax, and fruit-shaped light installations begin to glow after dark. Later in the evening, local residents gather in front of the stage for a live band performance.
When we return to the food street, the quiet area we saw earlier has filled with people. The video follows the entire evening—from the first food stalls to the nighttime crowd—and shows how local families spend their free time in suburban Beijing.
The event is officially called the 26th Daxing Caiyu Grape Season, but this episode is not mainly about grapes. It is about everyday people enjoying street food, children’s activities, lights and live entertainment together.
No filters and no added background music. The live performance, conversations and surrounding sounds were recorded as they happened.
China in Motion shows everyday China as it really is—streets, food, neighborhoods and ordinary local life beyond the usual tourist routes.
