Mahodand Road from Kalam | Glacier & Landslide Block the Route, Swat Valley

#MahodandLake #KalamSwat #swatvalley The road from Kalam to Mahodand Lake is one of the most scenic drives in Upper Swat Valley, Pakistan. This journey passes through Ushu Forest, Matiltan Valley and Paloga Valley, following the river deep into the mountains. On this trip we travelled almost the entire 36 km road from Kalam, but the mountains had other plans. A glacier and landslide had covered the road, stopping the journey about 20 minutes before reaching Mahodand Lake. The night before this journey, fresh snowfall covered the high mountain peaks, making the valley colder and even more dramatic. Sometimes in the mountains, the journey itself becomes the destination. This video documents the full drive along the Mahodand road from Kalam until the glacier blocked the way. Filmed on: 7 March 2026 (The night of 6 March saw fresh snowfall on the surrounding peaks.) ROUTE INFORMATION Distance from Kalam to Mahodand Lake: 36 km Normal travel time: 1 hour 25 minutes The road passes through: • Ushu Forest • Matiltan Valley • Paloga Valley before reaching Mahodand Lake in Upper Swat. In this journey the road was blocked by a glacier and landslide about 20 minutes before the lake.
