The East India Company came to India as traders but slowly turned into rulers who reshaped the destiny of an entire subcontinent. Their Governor-Generals were not just administrators but architects of exploitation, responsible for destroying India’s economy, industries, and social fabric. In this video, we uncover the five most destructive Governor-Generals of the East India Company and how their policies left India impoverished. From Lord Wellesley’s expansionist Subsidiary Alliance, which forced Indian rulers into submission, to Lord Dalhousie’s infamous Doctrine of Lapse, which annexed kingdoms like Jhansi and Awadh, the story of Company rule is one of greed and betrayal. Lord William Bentinck, often remembered for social reforms, also dealt a severe blow to Indian handicrafts by opening markets for British textiles, crippling traditional industries. Lord Cornwallis institutionalized permanent settlement, creating zamindars and trapping peasants into endless poverty. Finally, Lord Canning, the Governor-General during the Revolt of 1857, oversaw brutal suppression and reprisals that devastated entire regions. These Governor-Generals may have been celebrated in British history as empire-builders, but in India, they were seen as tyrants worse than dictators. Their policies led to famines, mass unemployment, land dispossession, and cultural humiliation. This video explores how the East India Company’s hunger for power destroyed a prosperous India, paving the way for nearly two centuries of exploitation. If you want to understand the real history of colonialism, economic drain, and political annexation, watch till the end. #british #eastindiacompany #indianhistory #governor #hindi Contact us at : historyconnect@newshumlog.com 🔗𝗧𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲, 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁: For regular videos, updates & more, subscribe to our YouTube channel.
