Here's the metro inaugural day full train journey from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani on the brand new Yellow Line of Chennai Metro - the much awaited Phase 2 expansion. This first day journey is from late 2026 - the visuals, context, and commentary in the video correspond to that period. The rolling stock for Phase 2 is an Alstom built slightly shorter three-car trainset powered by 25kV AC traction. The Phase 2 train operations and maintenance is being handled by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). While meant to be entirely driverless train with CBTC Unattended Train Operations (UTO) Grade of Automation 4 GoA4, the initial few months would be operated in manual degraded mode. The manual train operations, albeit temporary, is a first for Chennai Metro since the acceleration and braking on Phase 1 trains is automatically handled by onboard systems. Currently, the Yellow Line has an interchange with the existing Green Line at Vadapalani by means of an access controlled skywalk. The Yellow Line shares a first of its kind three-kilometre double decker stretch, including four stations, with the upcoming Red Line. Stations that have been inaugurated Poonamallee Bypass, Poonamallee Bus Stand, Poovai Poovirundhavalli Government Hospital, Karayanchavadi, Kumananchavadi, Kattupakkam, Iyyappanthangal, Thelliyaragaram, Porur Bypass, Porur Junction, Vadapalani Stations still under construction, skipped by the train Alapakkam, Karambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alwarthirunagar, Virugambakkam South, Saligramam Featuring alongside a few other metro trainsets is an IndiGo A321-252NX flying to Hyderabad. Thank you for getting on board. Right, proceed...until the next flag exchange! © 2026, JagRail
