Flatiron Trail Hike | Chasing Sunrise in the Superstition Mountains, Arizona

We started this hike at 4AM with one goal — make it to the top of Flatiron before sunrise. The trail through the Superstition Mountains was dark and quiet at first, but we had a few surprises along the way. We spotted some deer, ran into our old friend Slow Joe, and even got sprinkled on for a few minutes. We made it to the top just before sunrise, although the clouds had other plans. They blocked much of the sun, but the clouds and changing light still made for some beautiful views from the top of Flatiron. Looking back, we probably should have started around 3AM if we wanted to be completely settled in before daybreak. But that's part of hiking — sometimes things don't go exactly according to plan.
