Bring the taste of the coast to your kitchen with this delicious "Authentic Surmai Fish Curry"! Made with freshly fried surmai (king mackerel) fish pieces simmered in a rich, spicy, and aromatic curry, this recipe is packed with traditional flavors and is perfect to enjoy with steamed rice, bhakri, or chapati.

Whether you're a seafood lover or trying fish curry for the first time, this easy step-by-step recipe is sure to become a family favorite!
☛FOR MARINATION:-
Take 2 kg of Surmai fish (King Mackerel) in a large plate (Washed, Cleaned & Cut into pieces)
Sprinkle half a teaspoon of salt evenly over it
Evenly sprinkle ½ tsp turmeric powder over the fish pieces.
Sprinkle ½ tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder over the fish.
Gently rub the spices onto the fish pieces, ensuring they are evenly coated.
Once coated, set aside for 5 minutes to marinate.
☛FOR MASALA PASTE:-
Take 3 large onions (Sliced) in a grinding jar.
Add 1 inch roughly chopped ginger.
2 roughly chopped green chillies.
20-25 Garlic cloves.
½ bowl coriander leaves.
1 tsp Cumin seeds.
½ tsp whole back peppercorns.
2 tbsp water.
Grind it into a smooth paste.
Our Masala paste is ready.
☛To Fry the Fish:-
Heat ¼ cup mustard oi i a frying pan.
Once the oil is hot, carefully place the marinated surmai fish pieces in the pan
Fry on medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side or until lightly golden.
Remove the fried fish pieces & set them aside for later use.
⬗Method:-
Heat the same oil in a kadai that we used to fry the fish pieces.
Add another ⅓ cup of mustard oil to the kadai & allow it to heat properly.
Add ½ tsp of fenugreek seeds.
½ tsp Cumin seeds.
1 finely chopped onion
Saute the onions until they turn light brown.
Add 1 sprig of curry leaves. Stir & cook.
Now add 2 tbsp of kashmiri red chili powder, 1 tbsp coriander powder & ½ tsp turmeric powder. Mix & cook well (NOTE:- Reduce the heat to low so the spices do not burn)
Add the prepared masala. Mix & cook well.
Add 4 tomatoes puree. Mix & cook well.
Add salt to taste & mix well.
Close the lid & let it cook on low-to-medium heat for 5 minutes.
Open the lid after 5 minutes & mix well.
Rinse the grinding jar used for the masala paste & pour that water into the kadai. Stir & mix well.
Add coconut milk - 200 ML & mix well.
Add water - 100 ML & stir well.
Close the lid & let it cook on medium heat for 5 minutes.
Open the lid after 5 minutes & mix well.
Add ½ cup tamarind pulp, ½ tsp Garam masala, 2 green chillies (Slit Lengthwise) & 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves & mix well.
Once the curry starts simmering, gently add the fried fish pieces & mix gently so that the fish pieces remain intact
Close the lid & let it cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
Give the kadai a gentle shake to mix everything well.
