Experience a profound tribute to the "Sultan-ul-Hind," performed in the traditional lines of the Chishtiya way. This soul-stirring rendition by Ehtesham Shamshi—the youngest brother of the Najmuddin-Saifuddin family and son of the legendary Ustaad Bahauddin Qawwal—was captured in honor of Khwaja Sahb on the Chatti (6th). Carrying the torch of the 800-year-old Qawwal Baché Gharana, Ehtesham brings a raw, youthful energy to a spiritual legacy that has defined Qawwali for generations.
While many are familiar with the lyrics as "Piya ghar aye," this performance elevates the poetry to a higher spiritual plane by invoking the Khwaja. By centering the song on the Master, the "home" being described is not one of brick and mortar, but the heart of the seeker finally finding peace as the spiritual Master graces it with His presence. It is a celebration of the moment the seeker’s soul is finally reunited with the presence of their Guide.
In this Chishtiya traditional style, Ehtesham masterfully navigates the "Rang" or colors of the poetry, capturing the shifting emotional states of a devotee preparing for the Divine. The seeker stands bashfully adorned with henna, kohl, and finery, yet at the first glimpse of the Khwaja’s countenance, she surrenders every fiber of her being, realizing that no earthly ornament can match His light. Listen for the vulnerability in her voice as she turns to her friends in a desperate plea for a "remedy". Despite spending eternity polishing the mirror of her heart, she still feels unworthy of the union and begs for a way to become pleasing to Him.
The devotion takes an intense turn as she declares that the monsoon—the most joyous of seasons—should be "set on fire" and "turned to ash" if the Khwaja is not home to share the rain. This journey of the soul reaches its peak with a bold spiritual truth: while others travel toward the Kaaba, the true lover finds their prayer and their God right here, in the face of the Beloved.
