This collection takes us behind the cameras at Warner Bros. during Hollywood’s golden age through the personal archive of studio still photographer Mac Julian. Julian worked on Warner Bros. productions for decades, photographing not only stars such as Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Gary Cooper, Joan Leslie, Walter Huston and Tim Holt, but also the crews, sets, soundstages and location units working around them. In this auction highlight, we look at original production photographs connected with: • Smart Money • The Charge of the Light Brigade • The Adventures of Robin Hood • The Sea Wolf • Sergeant York • To Have and Have Not • The Treasure of the Sierra Madre Among the photographs are views of early sound-era camera equipment, Warner Bros. soundstages, location filming at Lone Pine and in Mexico, the full-scale schooner built for The Sea Wolf, and candid production photographs of some of the best-known actors and filmmakers of the period. Mac Julian’s family preserved the archive for decades before entrusting Britannic Auctions to represent the collection at auction.
