Apologies for the odd camera wobble... A quick video to compare 5 different settings on these machines. I also owned the SPX990 but didn't find it had enough character for the kind of music I was making, it sounded too thin to me. The Yamahas both sound a bit metallic and heavier than the Quadraverb, which sounds thinner, yet still has some of that lofi appeal for electronic music producers. I'd say the SPX900 is slightly smoother than the SPX90, yet both amazing machines for the money you can pay for them. I left the Linn drum sounds dry as that was my bass kick and I never really add reverb to that. The wet sounds are 707 and 808 samples loaded onto the RX5 via the fantastic GliGli cartridge. First sequence is always dry, then SPX90, SPX900, Quadraverb.
