More Than a Job: Babu’s Story of Partnership and Change

About six years ago, Elevate Nepal Founder Dan Maurer and Director of Operations & Chairman Resham Bal were travelling to the remote hills of Makawanpur to work on the Gopeghari water and sanitation project. At the time, roads were still being built in the area. As a local transport entrepreneur, Babu Moktan helped drive them to Gopeghari. That first journey led to many more—dropping off and picking up the team and eventually working together across many villages. Today, Babu is an invaluable member of the Elevate Nepal team, sourcing construction materials, supporting local workers, and helping coordinate communities and keep projects moving in some of the most remote parts of Makawanpur. Over the years, he has also witnessed the transformation of communities he once knew as extremely poor and isolated. “It feels like a dream,” he says, reflecting on how much has changed. For Babu, this is more than a job. It's a partnership that has allowed him to earn a living in Nepal, stay close to his family, and play a role in creating change in his own community. #ProgressThroughPartnership #ElevateNepal #CommunityEngagement #RuralNepal #StoryOfChange
