Experience a real day of rural life in Iran during a hot and extremely dry summer. Today, the water supply in our village was cut off for several hours, creating a serious water shortage. But even without running water, life in the countryside has to continue. I had a pile of dirty clothes to wash, but with no water available in the village, I had to take them to the nearby river. When I arrived, I unexpectedly noticed that several trees along the riverbank had caught fire. Before doing anything else, I used a bucket and river water to put out the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to the surrounding trees and nature. After making sure the fire was under control, I washed my clothes by hand beside the river and hung them on tree branches to dry in the hot summer air. While waiting for them to dry, I collected some natural materials that had been carried downstream by the river, gathered reeds, filled a traditional clay water jug, and eventually collected my clothes and headed back to the village. After returning home, I took care of the chickens, baby chicks, and farm animals before starting lunch. Today I decided to prepare a simple and traditional Iranian village dish called “Bi Pedar o Madar”, a traditional name used for Yatimcheh, a simple meatless dish made with vegetables. The dish is prepared with eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, onions, and aromatic spices. I washed and peeled the eggplants and zucchini, sautéed the onions and tomatoes, added the vegetables and fragrant spices, and slowly cooked everything over gentle heat until the vegetables became soft and flavorful. Finally, I served “Bi Pedar o Madar” (Yatimcheh) with fresh herbs from the garden and traditional homemade village bread. It was a simple, comforting, and delicious meal after a long and challenging day of rural work. This video is more than just a cooking video. It is a glimpse into authentic Iranian village life, including water shortages, washing clothes by the river, protecting nature from fire, caring for farm animals, preparing traditional food, and experiencing the simple realities of countryside living.
