Mechanics Tore Down a Failed GM 6.2 V8 — What They Found Inside

A mechanic drains the oil from a failed 6.2 liter V8, pulls the pan, and finds the bottom end destroyed. On some, the odometer had barely moved, a few hundred miles, in one case as few as four. This is the largest gas V8 General Motors builds for a half-ton truck, sitting in a nearly new Silverado, and it had torn itself apart from the inside. The strange part is what the teardown showed. The damage wasn't caused by anything the owner did wrong. It was already inside, waiting, before the key was ever turned.
