Native Nation Building Episode 10: Moving Towards Nation Building

Episode 10, the last episode from the 2006 NNI DVD series "Native Nation Building," brings back Udall Center Director Emeritus Stephen Cornell, former NNI Director Manley Begay (Navajo), and author Mark St. Pierre as moderator for a discussion on “Moving Towards Nation Building.” The conversation in this episode revolves around making clear the difference between the “Native Nation Building Approach” – leaning on the five pillars outlined by Cornell and economist Joe Kalt in their research on Indigenous nation economic development – and the so-called “Standard Approach,” which relies primarily on Native nations obtaining grants from the federal government to function.
