How We Connect Every Process in a Cable Plant - China XD Group - BlueSword

🧵Cable makers are adding capacity as electrification and grid investment pull demand forward, and CRU lists labour shortages among the constraints that could delay cable deliveries in Europe. Inside a cable plant, the product travels on reels from copper rod drawing through stranding, cabling and armoring, and the reel changes size, weight and handling method from one machine to the next. Forklifts carry those reels between machines in many plants, so output depends on how many drivers are on shift and heavy loads pass through the aisles operators work in. ⚡For China XD Group in Xi’an, we built the plant-wide logistics system that moves reels and pallets from raw material to finished goods. We designed custom vehicle types, each matched to the way its process takes a reel: through the center bore, with a clamp for the gantry pay-offs, or on a rotating platform that turns the reel to face the machine. Laser navigation accurate to within 10 mm and 360° laser scanning with 3D vision let these vehicles work narrow aisles alongside the people on the shop floor. 💬A fleet built around each process and linked to automated storage lets a cable plant raise output without adding forklifts or drivers.
