Title: [Redesigning Assessment amidst Generative Artificial Intelligence 2024] Empowering the Student Agency in the Age of Generative AI: Rethinking Assessment Design Date: 2024-12-09 Speaker: Prof Yun DAI, Assistant Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, The Chinese University of Hong Kong Venue: CYT LT3 @ CUHK Generative AI is reshaping education, particularly in assessment practices, presenting opportunities to rethink how we evaluate and engage students. This presentation introduces an empirically developed framework for fostering student agency in the age of generative AI, grounded in the presenter's original research using a grounded theory approach. The framework highlights key dimensions of student agency—autonomy, responsibility, and reflective practice—and provides actionable pathways to integrate these dimensions into assessment design. By bridging empirical insights with practical strategies, this presentation offers a nuanced perspective on redesigning assessment to position students as active, empowered participants in their learning journey. About the Speaker Dr Yun DAI is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Before joining CUHK in 2019, she worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in engineering education at the University of Southern California. Her research interests broadly revolve around artificial intelligence (AI) as a subject matter in K-12 education and as a learning tool in higher education. Her current research focuses on teaching and learning AI in the K-12 context, the personal epistemology of STEM teachers, and generative AI in higher education.
