Her death ends the shelter of Victor’s childhood and sends him towards Ingolstadt carrying grief, unanswered questions and the first shadow of his obsession with conquering death. (Verse 1) When fever entered Elizabeth, it darkened every room, Yet Caroline moved towards her through the gathering gloom. She kept her faithful vigil with a mother’s tender care, And drew the sickness from the child into the waiting air. (Verse 2) Elizabeth recovered as her guardian lost her breath, For love had crossed the boundary that carried her to death. She called her gathered family and struggled to remain, Then blessed the lives she cherished through the silence of her pain. (Chorus) The death of Caroline extinguished childhood’s sheltered light, And placed upon her son the first cold shadow of the night. Her kindness left the household through an ever-open door, While Victor learned that love could not restore the dead once more. (Verse 3) She joined Elizabeth and Victor with a weakening hand, And spoke of future happiness she would not live to understand. Her final hope entrusted them to promises apart, Before the stillness settled where once beat her faithful heart. (Verse 4) Soon Victor turned to Ingolstadt along the waiting road, Still carrying beneath his grief the questions death had sowed. The grave became the challenge that would feed his inward flame, And loss became the hidden root beneath his search for fame. (Chorus) The death of Caroline extinguished childhood’s sheltered light, And placed upon her son the first cold shadow of the night. Her kindness left the household through an ever-open door, While Victor learned that love could not restore the dead once more. (Bridge) He left behind a mother newly given to the grave, And dreamed that secret knowledge might discover how to save. But every mile towards learning drew him farther from the shore, Where tenderness had taught him what no science could restore. (Outro) So Caroline remained within the mourning of his years, A gentle face remembered through the fever and the tears. Her sacrifice preserved one life but left him facing death, And sent him towards the mystery of summoning back breath. #horrormusic #gothicmusic #metal #thrash #frankenstein #maryshelley
