Red KILLED Blue’s Raticate?! | FireRed: Rocket Edition

Pokémon FireRed: Rocket Edition just took one of the oldest strange details in Pokémon and made it genuinely heartbreaking. In Episode 4, Giovanni sends us to Lavender Town to deal with Mr. Fuji and Team Rocket’s problems in Pokémon Tower. But before we get very far, we run into Blue. And he finally tells us what happened to his Raticate. After losing to Red aboard the S.S. Anne, Raticate was injured so badly that Blue couldn’t save it and his grandfather’s response was basically to tell him to catch a stronger Pokémon instead. Yeah. Things get dark. From there we climb Pokémon Tower together, face the restless spirit of Cubone’s mother, confront Mr. Fuji, learn more about the Mewtwo project and Kanto’s past, and start discovering that the line between Team Rocket, Lance, Oak and the supposed “good guys” might not be nearly as simple as it looks.
