Replacing Rear Brake Pads and Rotors 2014-2020 Acura MDX [Part 2]

A complete rear brake job was performed on a 2019 Acura MDX that includes removing and replacing the calipers, caliper brackets, pads and rotors. The rear brake system in these vehicles include an electronically controlled parking brake which activates the caliper piston. A regular caliper piston retraction method such as using a C-clamp will not work. It will damage the caliper. The piston needs to be turned as it is pushed in. This requires a special tool. In the video a loan-a-tool is used to retract the piston back in. A special attachment that has the matching pins that line up to the MDX caliper piston holes is needed. The rental tool used in this video unfortunately does not have the right attachment. The actual tool needed is presented in the video but unfortunately unavailable. A custom attachment was made for use on the rental tool. This hack is used to complete the piston retraction job in order to continue and complete the job. The video demonstrates the maintenance of the pins and the appropriate torque amount to reinstall all components.
