Game: Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Song: Obelisk Chamber (Salvation)/Door of Destiny Thought we were done after the piano collection, but we can't stay away from the Fortune's Weave soundtrack! The Obelisk Chamber theme is a simple, melancholic arrangement of the Fortune's Weave main theme that does some brilliant work giving insight into each of the main characters just by swapping the lead instrument that plays over a backing classical guitar, so we were inspired to cover every version and bring in a different local collaborator from the Colorado VGM scene to lend their talents to each version. For our final collaboration here, we have our oldest friend in the Colorado scene, Audio Mocha! Mocha's known for his surf rock and latin jazz covers of VGM staples, but plays a wide variety of more traditional instruments and genres when the occasion arises. In addition to him just being one of the first people we thought of who plays a decent viola, he also fit well for the "Salvation" variant of the Obelisk Chamber, as it plays when Eshmel has finally brought the Flame Lords together to face the final act. Mocha is known around here for being the founder of the Colorado Super Game Music Festival and the Colorado VGM Discord and social media pages, so he's kind of that uniting protagonistic force for us. When I showed him the sheets, he also pointed out that it sits squarely in the center of the alto clef range (which for those unfamiliar with sheet music, is right between the standard low bass clef and higher treble clef), so that also makes viola a good thematic choice for this theme as it unites the lower and higher instruments used in the other variations. In all versions I'm playing the same backing as a duet on a new classical guitar that we won at an auction recently. It's imported from Spain and has a very rich and soothing sound, which seemed ideal for this largely Spanish-inspired OST.
