Griswold Mode Engaged: 1 Starlink, 1 Sketchy Ladder… GO! | Alaska Winter Prep

Winter in Alaska means preparing for more than just snow and cold — it also means preparing for power outages and staying connected when things don’t go according to plan. In this episode of our Alaska Winter Prep series, I’m about 20 feet up a ladder installing Starlink on the Keetna Castle. With the power outages we get throughout an Alaska winter, having an internet system we can run from generator power gives our family another way to stay connected when we need it. Instead of buying a ready-made mount, I build a custom Starlink mount out of scrap pipe, weld it together, mount it to the house, and get everything set up. I’ll also show you the Starlink obstruction map, how we chose the location, and what the setup process looks like here in Alaska. Of course, no Doin it Davis project goes completely according to plan. 😂 There are a few sketchy ladder moments, some definite Clark Griswold energy, and plenty of family fun along the way.
