New York City in the late 1930s, filmed by one New York family on real color film. This is real film, not colorized, and nothing has been AI-enhanced.
Easter crowds outside St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Fifth Avenue double-decker buses (gone from the avenue by 1953), the brand-new RCA Building and Prometheus at Rockefeller Center, Times Square neon (the Wrigley's fish, the International Casino nightclub, Woolworth's, Planters), a Decoration Day parade on May 30, 1939, the Cloisters a year after it opened, and the George Washington Bridge in 1936, when it still had one deck.
Much of what you see here is gone forever. Do you remember any of these places, or recognize the spots marked "Where is this?" Tell us in the comments.
