Abner was one of the most powerful men in Saul’s kingdom. He served as commander of Saul’s army, defended Saul’s house after his death, and helped establish Ish-Bosheth as king. In this Deep Dive, we follow Abner’s journey from Saul’s commander → opponent of David → supporter of David → advocate for Israel’s unity, and ask whether he should ultimately be remembered as a loyalist, an opportunist — or perhaps both. One principle guides this study: where Scripture is clear, we follow the text; where Scripture is silent, we should be careful not to fill in the gaps. 📖 Primary passages: 1 Samuel 14:50–51 1 Samuel 17:55–58 1 Samuel 26:5–16 2 Samuel 2:8–32 2 Samuel 3:1–39 1 Kings 2:5–6, 28–35 So, what do you think? Was Abner a loyalist or an opportunist? Or, like me, do you think the answer is both — but more a loyalist? #BibleStudy #BibleDeepDive #Abner #David #Saul #2Samuel #OldTestament #BiblicalHistory #BiblePodcast
