Deicer behind the kitchen island. A Powerade bottle with orange liquid in the recycling bin. Eight officers searched this apartment and the jury is about to see what they missed. Sergeant David Strong is a Massachusetts State Police detective assigned to the Essex County unit. He had no involvement in the Leroy Fowler investigation before November 14, 2022, when he was ordered to help execute a search warrant at 108 Central Avenue in Salisbury, the apartment Judy Church shared with Fowler. The prosecution needs him to walk the jury through every piece of physical evidence seized that day: the RainX deicer, the Powerade bottle, two handwritten notebooks, a blender, and Church's iPhone. Watch what happens when defense attorney Liam Scully gets his turn. He introduces the complete set of search warrant photographs, not just the ones the prosecution chose, and walks Strong through every single one. Pay attention to what Scully asks about the items that were NOT taken, the photographs that were NOT taken, and the protocols that were NOT followed. --- WATCH WITH JUSTICE 0:00 to 1:14 - Prior witness excused, court transitions. William Eaton was called but stepped out. Sgt. Strong is sworn in instead. 1:58 to 10:36 - Prosecution walks Strong through the apartment search. Deicer behind the kitchen island, Powerade bottle with orange liquid in the recycling bin, blender in a cabinet above the sink. Watch how efficiently the state enters its physical evidence. 10:36 to 19:44 - Notebooks from the bedroom, Church's iPhone, additional Powerade bottles around the residence. Every major exhibit the prosecution needs for its forensic case enters the record here. 19:44 to 23:45 - Final apartment photographs entered. Court breaks for lunch. 25:14 to 28:37 - Court resumes. Scully opens cross by establishing the full search team: eight officers, one to two hours. Then he introduces the complete photo set. 28:37 to 40:28 - Scully walks Strong through every search warrant photograph like a slideshow. Room by room, item by item. Fanta cans nobody can account for. Spray bottles never identified. A trash bag with a red stain never swabbed. The jury sees everything the investigation left behind. 40:28 to 49:31 - This is where it lands. Scully walks Strong through proper evidence placard protocol and Strong concedes they didn't follow it. No placards. No photos of exhibits in their original positions. The phone has no documented location. The notebooks have no documented location. Then the outside: trash barrels nobody can confirm were fully searched, a truck and trailer nobody can confirm were opened. 49:31 to 57:16 - A Yeti mug with unidentified liquid that nobody preserved. Strong never even saw it. Then exhibit after exhibit where Strong cannot say where it was found or whether it was photographed in place. 57:16 to 58:03 - Prosecution's redirect. One photograph of the iPhone. That is all they offer to repair what just happened. --- COMPLETE CASE COVERAGE justiceisaprocess.com SUBSCRIBE for daily trial coverage and hit the notification bell so you never miss testimony.
