On 26 August 2026 at around 8:37 AM, seismic instruments detected a signal equivalent to M5.2. It initially looked like an earthquake — but it wasn't a conventional tectonic earthquake.
A section of glacier and glaciated mountain slope near Langtang Lirung collapsed, sending an enormous ice-and-rock avalanche into the river system. The debris reached the Lhende River, temporarily blocked the river, and eventually transformed a mountain collapse into a devastating flood downstream.
In this documentary, we follow the entire chain:
GLACIER COLLAPSE → AVALANCHE → SEISMIC SIGNAL → RIVER BLOCKAGE → FLOOD → CASCADING DISASTER
We also investigate a crucial question:
Could people have been warned?
And why did conventional flood-warning systems face a challenge when the disaster began high on a glacier rather than with rainfall or rising river levels?
The exact trigger behind the glacier collapse is still under investigation. This documentary separates what is known from what remains uncertain.
