Join us in this sailing video to see how we are making the most of our sailing life, by reaching the Whitsunday Islands, just in time for Ana’s Bday treat: seaplane-ing over the Great Barrier Reef, one of the 7 wonders of the world.
We are ‘Outwiththewind’, Sorin and Ana sailing around the world aboard our sailing yacht Mehalah, an Oyster Mariner 35. We sailed off from London in May 2018 and had been stuck in NZ because of Covid since May 2020. We were chuffed to resume our around the world sailing in May 2022, returning to Fiji, and then sailing west to Australia via Vanuatu and New Caledonia. We have now completed our Indian Ocean crossing! We recall our Aussie’s land explorations and sailing adventures with most pleasure.
We were very lucky for the skies to clear just before the long awaited flight over the Great Barrier Reef, so that we can fully enjoy the beauty of the reef from above, before catching a rare windless weather window to sail to the reef. The reef is really magic from above, from the water and from underwater.
Mating whales took to the Bait Reef anchorage in a frenzy. We were in awe.
We wanted to spend there longer than just a few days, but the weather reins supreme, and we need to sail back to the Whitsunday Islands and then, Airlie Beach before the weather deteriorates.
