Burnout is a phenomenon that affects every workplace; palliative care and hospice work are especially susceptible. Given the projected growth of the aging population, skilled healthcare workers are necessary to care for our kūpuna (seniors).
Alexis Fodran, DNP, APRN, Director of Palliative Care at Navian presents: Burnout Reduction Amongst Palliative and Hospice Staff - A Minfuleness Intervention. She focuses on the efforts to address this phenomenon. Significant research has been done to address this concern. One area of research that has shown benefit is the implementation of a mindfulness program. The Palouse Program has been researched highlighting improvements in burnout, and this program was implemented at a home-based palliative care and hospice agency in Hawaiʻi.
