If you’re a people pleaser, you probably know how exhausting it can be to constantly think about how your decisions affect everyone around you.
You want to be kind. You want to be considerate. You want people to feel comfortable around you. But sometimes caring so much about everyone else means you stop asking yourself what you actually want.
In this 45-minute yap, I’m talking about people pleasing, empathy, guilt, boundaries, social anxiety, self-confidence, and the uncomfortable process of choosing yourself without becoming selfish.
Why does disagreement feel so personal? Why do we feel guilty for saying no? How do we know when guilt is telling us we’ve actually done something wrong versus simply telling us that someone is disappointed with us? And how do we learn to care about other people without constantly abandoning ourselves?
I’m still figuring this out myself, but I think there’s something powerful about realizing that you can be a good person and still disappoint people.
You can care about someone and still say no.
You can be empathetic and still have boundaries.
You can listen to someone's opinion without making it your truth.
And you can choose yourself without becoming selfish.
This is a conversation about learning to belong to yourself.
