Full Score for Nocturne in D-Flat Major (for Solo Piano) Composed with Chopin and Debussy in mind, the Nocturne is a contemplative, reflective journey through a moonlit path, accompanied only by a gentle breeze and one’s own thoughts. The harmonies are built off of both quintal and quartal stacks, usually ascending upwards to take advantage of nearly the full range of the piano. D-flat is a significant note and tonal center in this piece, as it is typically the root of the rolled chords as well as the lowest note played during the piece. While it builds to an expressive middle section and shifts through key centers, the piece finds itself back to D-flat by the end, completing the journey. This piece was meant to be played freely, without strict adherence to rhythm or time.
