And now, heading to Kabul.
So I decided to stop because I was very hungry, but it didn’t take 2 minutes before I was surrounded by people, mostly kids .
Plov (or palov) is the absolute national dish of Uzbekistan, consisting of short-grain rice cooked in a large cast-iron cauldron (kazan) with tender chunks of beef or lamb, yellow and orange carrots, onions, and whole heads of garlic. Seasoned generously with cumin, coriander seeds, and barberries, the rice steams directly over a rich, flavorful broth until it absorbs all the fat and spices. Far more than just a meal, plov is the heart of Uzbek hospitality and is served at every major life event, from casual lunches to massive wedding celebrations.
I ran out of cotton also to make fire so one of the kid who spoke english told me I could buy some here. But he mistaked it for fabric made out of cotton, but nevermind, he told me to wait for his brother who spoke french to come, and at this point It was already the afternoon and I was already pretty tired.
As soon as his brother saw me he nicely offered me to go to hamam then he was gonna show me around he said.
So we ended up at the top of the hill overlooking the city.
Then it was time to meet my new friend’s family !
Before dinner, we played Chaka. It is a popular and traditional Afghan board game, often referred to as the Afghan equivalent of Ludo or Parchisi.
As the evening wore on, the dining room gradually filled with an assortment of locals and family. We lacked a common language, yet I managed to forge a makeshift dialogue with the handful of Pashto words I had managed to scrape together—even made them laugh a few times.
It was also here that I received my formal initiation into naswar—the local chewing tobacco. I was soon to discover that this plug of green sludge was mainly used by veterans of the Soviet war.
It was a good night
